Earlier this year, ECF was invited by House of Two, a multidisciplinary design studio in Mumbai, India, to give a collaborative talk on ‘Placemaking for Children in Spaces’. It was a pleasure to share thoughts with a team who, like ECF, keep community at the core of everything they do.
The key focus of the talk was how innovative engagement can result in spaces designed by, and for, children and young people. During the talk, Ashni Jain, Account Manager at ECF, spoke about the innovative community engagement tools used across our projects. This included examples such as our workshop with Cambridge Curiosity & Imagination, which was organised as a part of the People City Planet Festival for the Hartree project in North East Cambridge. The workshop was designed for children and teenagers aged 8 to 14, and included an activity in which the participants were given an aerial view of the site and were asked to populate it using different drawing games. We also discussed the design and implementation of an Urban Room in Harlow. The engagement tree and interactive activities designed for the walls of the room specifically to engage young children led to interesting conversations.
The conversation concluded by underscoring the role of inclusive design in community engagement, especially for large, diverse groups. The founders of House of Two, Swati Paranjpe and Siddharth Khandelwal, led the discussion on how these methods can be used across jurisdictions and can be moulded as per the context.
We are thankful for the invitation and hope to partner again soon.
