One of the main challenges in the planning process is having truly inclusive community engagement. There are some groups who are more likely to participate in engagement, and some who are seldom heard during the engagement process. One can aim to reach these groups by conducting comprehensive engagement, but there will always be limits to how inclusive community engagement can be. These constraints arise due to language or cultural differences, physical impairments, social expectation, time limits or financial barriers.
Thankfully, the importance of inclusive engagement is becoming more widely recognised, and as such, solutions to overcome these constraints are becoming increasingly sought after. For many people, the answer lies with AI. This panel discussion will consider how the use of AI may be the key for professionals, as well as local and national decision makers, to achieve best practice community engagement. As part of the London Festival of Architecture, ECF are hosting a panel discussion which will explore how AI tools can be used to help shape and conduct engagement programmes better, involving those who are often not heard during the engagement process.
Our expert panel of built environment professionals from the private, public and third sectors will share examples of best practice, and discuss the challenges, importance and benefits of the use of AI in community engagement. Our panellists include Stefan Webb, a Senior Partner at digital transformation firm TPXimpact, Tiernan Mines, CEO and co-founder of digital engagement platform Hello Lamp Post, Hamza Shaik, digital artist at Gensler, and Kathy Jones, co-founder and executive director of ECF. It is an event not to be missed by those interested in the increasing prominence of AI and how this could impact the world of planning and community engagement.
